Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe amount of overtime worked in my Department by the permanent and temporary grades below the, executive grade during the months of November, December, and January was 10,096 hours, at a cost of £931.
Mr. MONTAGUMay I ask if we can have the assurance that this practice is limited as far as possible?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINYes, that is so. I have taken particular pains not to have any more overtime than is necessary, and I may mention that in the course of the last 18 months no fewer than 400 temporary clerks have been engaged.
