asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount in sterling that we paid the United States in 1926 against our external debt?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The Debt payments made by His Majesty's Government to the United States in 1926 amounted in round figures to. £35,000,000 sterling, of which £28,000,000 was in respect of interest, and £5,000,000 in respect of repayment of capital on the debt to the United States Government, and £2,000,000 was in respect of interest on market loans in the United States.
