HC Deb 14 February 1927 vol 202 cc557-8
65. Colonel DAY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the amount of harbour dues imposed upon passengers arriving by steamers calling at Ramsgate for the 12 months ending to the last convenient date?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

I have been asked to reply. The total amount of dues received from passengers arriving or departing by steamer at Ramsgate Harbour during the year ended 31st December, 1926, was £2,398 16s.

Colonel DAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the dues have not been doubled during the last 18 months for passengers arriving?

Colonel ASHLEY

I must have notice of that question, but I do not think that they have been doubled.

Mr. PENNY

Will the right hon. Gentleman state why he is dealing with harbours instead of transport by road?

Colonel ASHLEY

Surely ships coming into harbour are a very important means of transport.
