Mr. BROMLEYasked the Home Secretary if he recently received a resolution, passed at a public meeting, requesting the Government to empower the police to grant a permit to any person who has lost a dog to visit and inspect the kennels and anima houses attched to establishments where vivisection is practised; and, if so, whether he contemplates any action in the direction indicated in the resolution?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSYes, Sir, I have received the resolution, but am unable to take any action on it, as I have no powers to authorise the grant of permits as suggested.
§ Mr. BROMLEYDoes not the right hon. Gentleman think it might be more advisable to have something of this nature 566 in operation than some day to have someone calling with a few friends to look for his stolen dog?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI think the idea is a very good one, and perhaps the hon. Member would ballot for a Bill on the subject.
