HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 c267
15. Mr. DENNISON

asked the Minister of Health the average weekly cost per head of a pauper lunatic and an indoor pauper for the last two complete years ending 31st March?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

It is estimated that, excluding the cost of buildings and loan charges, which on the average may be put at between 6s. and 7s. per week, the average weekly cost per head of persons maintained in institutions for lunatics at the cost of the guardians was, for the year ended 31st March, 1924, 22s. 2¾d. and, for the year ended 31st March, 1925, 21s. 3¼d. The average weekly cost of a person maintained in a Poor Law institution in England and Wales, including the cost of buildings and loan charges, was 25s. 5d. for the year 1923–24 and 27s. 1½d. for the year 1924–25.

Mr. R. RICHARDSON

Can the right bon. Gentleman say how much the Exchequer contribution was towards the cost of these pauper lunatics?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a separate question.
