HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 cc285-6
49. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Prime Minister if his attention has been called to the recent declaration of Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer in support of the Fascist party in Italy; and, if so, whether or not such declaration represents the policy of the Government?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have only read the report of this interview in the Press, and I did not see anything to which exception could be taken.

Mr. THURTLE

Is it the view of the Government that it is highly undesirable for a responsible Cabinet Minister to interfere by means of public expression, either of disapproval or approval, in the internal domestic politics of another country?

Sir J. NALL

Will the same view be communicated to the responsible Opposition?

Mr. THURTLE

Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to give us the view of the Government on the point?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have nothing to add to the answer I have given.
