HC Deb 20 December 1927 vol 212 cc218-9
49. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the amount in sterling of the yearly salary and allowances for the Agent-General for Reparations in Germany; what is the total number of persons acting as assistants, heads of Departments, and on the staff of the Reparations Department; and what is the total amount of the salaries and allowances in sterling paid to these persons?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The personnel of the Reparation Commission in Paris numbers 237, namely, 11 delegates and assistant delegates, 49 administrative officers and 177 subordinate staff. The amount of the salaries and allowances paid is at present about £110,000 a year, but the Commission have recently decided to effect economies which will reduce this amount to about £100,000 a year. The personnel of the office for Reparation Payments in Berlin consisted, on 30th November, 1926, of 130 persons, of whom 41 are subordinate staff; details are given in the published Reports of the Agent-General for Reparation Payments. I am informed that the total amount of the salaries and wages received by this personnel, so far as they are chargeable against the Dawes Annuities, is approximately £132,000 a year, but I have no official information as to the salaries of particular officers.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Has not the right hon. Gentleman the answer as to the amount of the salary of the Agent-General himself?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have not it on this piece of paper.
