HC Deb 20 December 1927 vol 212 c199
14. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary for Mines whether the special commissioners to deal with the question of unemployment in the coalfields have yet been appointed, and who they will be?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)

I have been asked to reply. I am not yet in a position to add anything to the reply given on 15th December by my right hon. Friend to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Fair field (Major Cohen).

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

In view of the great number of ex-servicemen who are out of work in the coalfields, will the right hon. Gentleman consider having a representative of the British Legion either as one of the commissioners or to aid them as an assessor or adviser?

Mr. BETTERTON

My right hon. Friend stated the other day, when replying to a question on this subject, that he had no doubt that the Board, when appointed, would welcome the co-operation of all organisations, including the British Legion, who might be able to help.
