HC Deb 20 December 1927 vol 212 cc215-6
44. Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether any recommendation has been received by the Government of India for an inquiry to be made as to the possibility of entrusting the reclamation of criminal tribes in India to philanthropic bodies; and, if so, whether any action has been taken in the matter?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

No report has been made by the Government of India that they are considering any general inquiry of the nature indicated. The hon. Member is doubtless aware of the useful work carried out already in this field by the Salvation Army in particular.
