HC Deb 19 December 1927 vol 212 c12
26. Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will consider granting to chief petty officers serving in shore establishments the privilege of going on leave and returning from leave in plain clothes, since this is a request which has often been advanced and which would be much appreciated?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)

The Admiralty regret that they are unable to accede to this request.

Sir B. FALLE

Can my hon. and gallant Friend state the reason or excuse for refusing this concession?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

The matter was very carefully considered before the decision was taken.
