HC Deb 12 December 1927 vol 211 cc1827-8
6. Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, following the resolution passed in the Burma Legislative Council stating that in the opinion of that body the best interests of the province are likely to be served by the State management of the Burma railways on the termination of the present contract in 1928, and the resolution in similar terms passed by the chief body representative of commercial and industrial opinion in that province, the Secretary of State has now received the recommendations of the Government of India in this matter; and, if so, whether a decision has yet been arrived at with regard to taking over the railways in the province and running them under State management?

Earl WINTERTON

My Noble Friend has accepted the recommendation of the Government of India that the working of the Burma railways shall be transferred to State management after 31st December, 1928.
