HC Deb 07 December 1927 vol 211 cc1370-1
29. Lieut.-Colonel WINDSOR-CLIVE

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has come to a decision regarding the provision of improved local office facilities for applicants for unemployment benefit in the Clee Hill district?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Local discussions are still proceeding regarding the question of local office facilities in the Clee Hill district. I hope to come to a decision at an early date, and will then communicate with my hon. and gallant Friend.

30. Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the nearest Employment Exchanges to the districts of Dagenham, Beacontree and Chadwell Heath are at Barking and Ilford, with the result that men in these districts have to tramp a considerable distance if they cannot afford the tramcar fare; and whether, in view of the rapid growth of the population in those districts, he will consider the propriety of having an Employment Exchange established there?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I have the matter under consideration, and hope to reach a decision at an early date.
