§ 11. Viscount SANDONasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will approach the various Governments concerned for the purpose of arranging for the production locally 954 in the British West Indies and other Colonies of the film of the battles of Coronel and the Falklands?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)As I understand that the distributing rights in this film are in the hands of private enterprise, my Noble Friend will realise that it would not be desirable for me to accept his suggestion.
§ Colonel DAYAre not the Government interested in the profits of this film, and would it not be beneficial for them to take some interest in the distribution of it
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREI do not think so. If the Colonial Office started recommending particular films to particular Colonial Governments, there would be no end to it.
§ Colonel DAYIs it not a fact that the First Lord of the Admiralty stated in this House some time ago that the Admiralty were financially interested in the profits?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREI am not aware of that statement.
