§ 26. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYasked the Prime Minister whether the establishment of a combined Ministry of Defence, with a combined general staff, is to receive further examination, in view of the urgent need for economy in the public services?
§ The PRIME MINISTERNo, Sir. Full inquiries have already taken place, and the results have been communicated to Parliament.
§ Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYDoes not the right hon. Gentleman think that a new situation has arisen owing to the deficit in the public finances which has led to the proposed abolition of three other Departments; and does not that open up the whole question again of the better organisation of Government?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI do not think so, but it has always been open to the House to debate this subject, and I have expressed the desire that they would chose it for debate.
