HC Deb 26 April 1927 vol 205 c652
19. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the present position in regard to the concession for the development of the Dead Sea salt deposits, and what consideration is being received therefrom?

Mr. AMERY

Negotiations for the conclusion of an agreement for the working of the concession are in progress, and I hope to be able to make a statement shortly.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Will the right hon. Gentleman look into this question very carefully and see that the development of this important chemical deposit is not held up because of ancient Turkish concessions, which are not being worked?

Mr. AMERY

I have been looking into the question very carefully for a long time.

Mr. KIRKWOOD

Will the right hon. Gentleman go into the matter and see whether the Dead Sea is on the site of the former Cities of the Plain, Sodom and Gomorrah?
