HC Deb 14 April 1927 vol 205 cc535-7
22. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what was the total amount of money received from the sale of war stores to the end of the financial year 31st March, 1927? of staff at the Board of Inland Revenue in December, 1922, and January, 1927; the number away on sick leave for the year ending 1926; and the number of hours worked excess of the normal by the clerical staff for the year ending December last?

Mr. McNEILL

As the answer to this question contains in tabular form a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Sir J. NALL

Is my right hon. Friend aware that, according to the Blue Paper issued for the Budget Debate, the cost of this Revenue and Customs service is nearly three times what it was before?

Mr. McNEILL

The answer was that the information will be circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the information promised.

The Number of staff are as follow:

Mr. McNEILL

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for West Leicester on the 11th April.

Mr. THORNE

That is only the amount realised for war stores during a stated period. I want to know what is the total amount realised from the whole of the sales.

Mr. McNEILL

The answer to which I have referred the hon. Member gives the amount during the years ended 31st March, 1926, and 31st March, 1927.

Mr. THORNE

My question is as to the total amount. The answer to the question put by my hon. Friend refers only to certain years. I want the total amount realised since the termination of the War.

Mr. McNEILL

I very much regret if the answer to which I have referred the hon. Gentleman does not cover that period. I will look into the matter, and will try to get the information that the hon. Gentleman requires.

Captain CROOKSHANK

Have the whole of the stores been disposed of, or are there likely to be any more?

Mr. McNEILL

I think there is still a considerable though a relatively small sum expected, but the exact figure I stated in answer to a question the other day.
