HC Deb 13 April 1927 vol 205 c342
2. Colonel DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the total number of troops, naval ratings, and other units belonging to the British Empire, that are now stationed in China?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

The total British military forces now stationed in China consist of 16 infantry battalions, together with the necessary ancillary troops. In addition, there are four battalions on their way to China. The total naval personnel on the China Station, including one Royal Marine battalion, is approximately 14,000.

Colonel DAY

Does that include the Air Force squadrons.

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I am not sure. I think it does include whatever Air Force personnel is there.
