HC Deb 13 April 1927 vol 205 cc353-4
26. Colonel DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Air when it is expected to launch the giant airship R.100; whether the special engines, using a mixture of paraffin and hydrogen, will be fitted to this airship; and, if not, if he can state how many, and what other make of, engines will be fitted?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

As regards the first part of the question, I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Penistone on 31st March. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative, and to the last part that it is the present intention of the contractor to fit six Rolls Royce Condor engines developing 650 h.p. each.

Colonel DAY

Can the hon. Baronet say whether this is the first of a series of these airships, and whether any further airships of the type are to be built?

Sir P. SASSOON

I must ask for notice of that question.
