HC Deb 13 April 1927 vol 205 c350
13. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he intends to conduct an inquiry to ascertain whether aircraft and other naval requirements can be constructed in the Royal Dockyards?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I understand that the present policy of the Air Ministry is to reply upon the aircraft industry for construction of aircraft, as the hon. Member was informed on the 17th February last (OFFICIAL REPORT, Columns 1111–2). There is no need for an inquiry so far as naval requirements are concerned, as we are already aware of the capabilities of the Royal Dockyards.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Although this may be the policy of the Air Ministry, will not the right hon. Gentleman try to get the policy changed?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I think it would be better to address that question to the Secretary of State for Air.
