HC Deb 13 April 1927 vol 205 cc357-8
35. Mr. PALING

asked the Minister of Agriculture which countries have ratified the Convention concerning the age of children employed in agriculture adopted by the Conference in 1921?

Sir. A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I have been asked to reply. This Convention has been ratified by the following countries:—Austria, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Estonia, Hungary, Irish Free State, Italy, Japan, Poland and Sweden.

Mr. PALING

Is there any condition in this Convention which has not been adopted, and which is already applied to children in this country?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I think not.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Are the terms of the Convention applied to British agriculture at the present moment; and, if not, why formal ratification has not taken place?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

It applies to English agriculture, but not entirely to agriculture in Scotland or the North of Ireland.
