HC Deb 12 April 1927 vol 205 cc160-1
6. Mr. TAYLOR

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he proposes to seek any powers to regulate the export of capital from Great Britain, to ensure that British citizens shall not be permitted to damage British trade by financing competitive industries in other countries?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave on the 15th March to the hon. Member for the Stourbridge Division.

Mr. TAYLOR

May we take it that the Government have no intention of examining this very important matter, in view of the damage done to the workers and traders in Great Britain by the export of capital to other countries? Are not the Government considering the matter?

Mr. McNEILL

I think the Government are fully aware of all the circumstances in connection with it, and whatever significance they may have.

Mr. TAYLOR

I asked whether the Government are taking any steps in this matter. Am I to take it that the position remains substantially the same as the answer indicates?

Mr. McNEILL

I do not think the Government are taking any steps in the matter in the sense of making any alteration in the law.
