§ 22. Sir JOHN POWERasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how long it is proposed to continue the Stevenson scheme for rubber restriction and if he can state its effect on the rubber industry in the British Empire?
§ Mr. AMERYAs regards the first part of the question, I would refer to the reply given on 22nd February to my hon. Friend the Member for Kingston-on-Thames (Mr. Penny). The effect of the scheme upon producers has been the substitution of a remunerative price for one which in many cases fell below the cost of production, while users of rubber are benefited by a tendency towards stabilisation of prices, which is greatly to their interest.
