§ 23. Colonel WEDGWOODasked the Minister of Health whether he intends to introduce legislation modifying the ineidence of local rates upon railway and dock companies to replace the Clause omitted from the Rating and Valuation Act, 1925?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe valuation of hereditaments comprised in railway undertakings has been the subject of discussions between the railway companies and representatives of local authorities. I hope that, as a result of these discussions, which are still in progress, the passage of the necessary legislation will be facilitated.
§ Colonel WEDGWOODDid not the right hon. Gentleman pledge the Government to introduce legislation on these lines when he withdrew the Clause from the 1925 Bill?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI do not remember the exact words now, or whether they constituted what could be called a pledge. But certainly it was understood that legislation would be introduced.
