HC Deb 07 April 1927 vol 204 cc2261-2
65. Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has yet received any Report as to what action has been taken by the Government of Kenya Colony to give some official recognition to the act of exceptional bravery by a native who single-handed attacked a lion which was mauling an acting district commissioner and thereby saved the life of the official in question?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I have received a despatch on this subject from the Governor of Kenya, and the name of this native will be considered, with others, in connection with the list of recommendations for the King's Police Medal, which will be submitted to His Majesty towards the end of the present year. I understand that he has already been thanked personally by the Governor and has received a gift of blankets, which he particularly desired.

Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

Is it not a fact that he has received only one blanket?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I am not aware of that fact. All I know is that he was asked what he would like, and he asked for blankets.
