HC Deb 07 April 1927 vol 204 cc2233-4
2. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Pensions if the inquiry into educa- tional grants for the children of service men killed in the Great War is now complete; and whether he will issue regulations for the Special Grants Committee providing that the grant shall be given in all cases where the child has won a scholarship at a secondary school or passed the entrance examination at a secondary school, or other school providing the same standard of education?

Major TRYON

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to a similar question by the hon. and gallant Member for Heywood and Radcliffe (Colonel England) on 10th February last, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. R. MORRISON

As this matter has been under the consideration of the right hon. Gentleman for a very long time, may I ask whether he is anywhere near a decision?

Major TRYON

The matter has been under consideration and has been receiving special attention, and if the hon. Member would refer to the answer which has already been given he will see the line we are taking.

Lieut.-Colonel WATTS-MORGAN

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there is any likelihood that these grants will be given? Could we have a definite Yes or NO?

Major TRYON

The answer is quite clear, and I will send my hon. and gallant Friend a copy.
