HC Deb 07 April 1927 vol 204 c2269
77. Mr. LIVINGSTONE

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the recent breakdown in the telephone services, he will make inquiries with the view of establishing a wireless telegraphic station at Castlebay, Barra?

Viscount WOLMER

The cable ship is at present on her way to repair the Castlebay cable, and it is anticipated that telegraphic communication will be restored, if weather conditions are favourable, within the next few days. The cost of providing a wireless telegraph service at Castlebay—even of a temporary nature—is heavy and is not justified by the small amount of traffic.
