HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 cc1702-3
96. Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Home Secretary whether, as the result of his conference with the taximeter-cab industry, he is now in a position to agree to a reduction in taximeter-cab fares?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I am now considering a revised scale of fares and hope to be in a position to make an announcement on the subject at an early date.

Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Has the right hon. Gentleman seen the suggestion made by the taxi-cab drivers themselves that the fares are to be reduced to 6d. per mile?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have seen a suggestion which purported to be made by some of them, but I have had no statement on behalf of the whole trade.

Captain BRASS

Is the Home Secretary considering the question of advertisements in taxi-cabs?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

Yes.

Major CRAWFURD

What date may we expect to be defined by the expression "an early date"?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I hope to be able to make an announcement before Easter.
