HC Deb 25 October 1926 vol 199 cc539-40
Mr. BENNETT

(by Private Notice) asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can now make a statement as to the commercial relations between Great Britain and Spain, especially in connection with the imposition of the new Spanish duties which lay a severe burden on British export trade?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I have received strong representations from various industrial and commercial bodies on the subject of the Decree issued by the Spanish Government on 9th July. Negotiations are to be undertaken for a revision of the Treaty. But His Majesty's Government have informed the Spanish Government that in the absence of a satisfactory revision of the Treaty, the existing Treaty would be brought to an end on 23rd April next.
