HC Deb 30 November 1926 vol 200 c992
15. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Secretary of State for War the number of lads under 18 recruited for the Army during the six months ended 31st October last?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

962 were recruited as boys.

Mr. THURTLE

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that these lads fully understand the nature of the calling?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Yes; the bulk of them were being trained at Chepstow for the tradesmen classes in the Army. Some were drummer boys, and I think every drummer boy knows what his calling is.
