HC Deb 30 November 1926 vol 200 cc1009-10
47. Colonel DAY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will consider legislation having as its object the protection of male persons whose wives' earnings are such as to make them responsible at law for Income Tax in respect of the woman's earnings?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Churchill)

I have not vet had occasion to consider this question, but shall be ready to look into it.

Colonel DAY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that only two weeks ago a man summoned at the Willesden County Court informed the Court that he had no knowledge at all of his wile's earnings, because she would not disclose them to him?

Mr. CHURCHILL

There are some anomalies in this matter, and, as I have said, I shall be ready to look into them.
