HC Deb 24 November 1926 vol 200 c396
46. Mr. HAYES

asked the Prime Minister whether it is proposed to introduce the Bill granting the franchise to women on the same terms as men before the next General Election?

The PRIME MINISTER

The whole question is under the consideration of the Government.

Mr. HAYES

In view of the great necessity for a General Election, does not the right hon. Gentleman think that this matter should be dealt with?

Viscountess ASTOR

Is the Prime Minister aware that the women certainly understood that it was a pledge given by him at the last election?

The PRIME MINISTER

Perhaps the Noble Lady will read my answer when it is in print.

Captain WEDGWOOD BENN

Does it mean that the Government will adhere to the pledge during the life of this Parliament?

The PRIME MINISTER

I must refer the hon. and gallant Member to the answer which I have just given.
