§ 43. Mr. REMERasked the Minister of Labour if his attention has been called to the state of the Macclesfield Unemployment Exchange; if he is aware that a number of unemployed workmen, ill clad and in a state of poverty, have to wait in a cold place, with no protection whatever from the weather; and if he will make some alteration which will protect these workmen from damage to their health?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)I have made inquiries and am informed that any waiting by applicants outside the Exchange premises is due to their attending in advance of their scheduled times and not to inadequate accommodation. A timing system is in force, adherence to which should prevent any necessity for queues.
