§ 10. Mr. BRIANTasked the Home Secretary if he is aware of the number of societies or associations, not registered as building societies, which are advertising for and obtaining the money of would-be purchasers of houses, many of whom are ex-service men, and which fail to carry out the promises made; and if he will consider the desirabiity of compelling the registration under the Building Societies Act of all organisations which promise to secure the purchase of houses under a system of instalments?
§ Mr. RONALD McNEILLI am advised that registration under the Building Societies Acts would not be appropriate to most of the concerns to 1237 which the question refers. I understand, however, that the Board of Trade Departmental Committee on the Assurance Companies Act, 1909, is considering the position of these societies.
