17. Mr. DAVIESalso asked the Minister of Labour why His Majesty's Government have requested the International Labour Office to conduct an inquiry into the cost of social insurance in other countries; and for what purpose the information is required?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDThe cost of social insurance in the various countries is, in the opinion of His Majesty's Government, a factor which must be taken into account in considering the problems of industry from an international standpoint. Authoritative information on the subject is at present lacking, and the Governing Body of the International Labour Office has, therefore, requested that office to study the question and collect the necessary data.
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDI shall be glad to give this House any information I can get on this subject.
