§ Mr. SULLIVANI beg to present a Petition on behalf of the Congregational Church of Uddington, and the United Free Churches of Bothwell Park, Aitkenhead, Glenboig, Shotts, and Airdrie, against the proposed Betting Duty, and "recording an emphatic protest against the retrograde proposal of His Majesty's Government to impose a tax upon betting, thus seeking to increase the national revenue by a means which cannot be lucrative without impoverishing and degrading many homes, and thereby giving fiscal sanction to a practice which has grown into a menace to the thrift, industry and moral well-being of the community."
