§ 4. Colonel DAYasked the Home Secretary if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Mr. Rufus Stapleton Hayes, of 129, Newington Butts, Southwark, S.E., born of British parents in the island of Barbados on 4th August, 1877, and who has served in the British Mercantile Marine for over 29 years, was prevented from landing at Cardiff on 16th April last until he had registered as an alien; that he was registered as such by the Cardiff police aliens officer, despite his protest, and was as a result of such registration obliged to notify the Metropolitan Police on arrival at his home address; and whether he will take such action that will result in this man's name being rased from the aliens register, and an apology afforded.
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI have not had the opportunity to make full enquiries as to the circumstances of this man's registration, but on the information I have been able to obtain have come to the conclusion that the registration should be cancelled, and I am taking steps accordingly.
