HC Deb 04 May 1926 vol 195 c207
2. Viscount SANDON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will consider the desirability of taking power to safeguard the consumer by inflicting penalties on gas companies where the meters are in fault and record excessive readings, and by inspection of such meters.

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

All meters by means of which gas is supplied must be stamped by an Inspector of Gas Meters. The performance of meters is believed to be generally satisfactory. It is usual when any defect is discovered for the account to be adjusted between the supplier and consumer on the basis of previous consumption.
