HC Deb 04 May 1926 vol 195 c200
48. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has taken any steps to ensure that the extra money to be paid this year by the brewers by the new method adopted for collecting the Beer Tax will not be actually paid by the consumer of beer, either by a raising of the price or the reduction of the quality of the beer sold?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have no reason to believe that the reduction in the period of credit allowed to brewers for payment of Beer Duty will result either in a raising of the price of beer or in a reduction of its quality.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Has the right hon. Gentleman an assurance from the brewing trade on that point?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have answered the question as far as I am in a position to do so.
