HC Deb 03 May 1926 vol 195 cc27-8
56. Sir F. WISE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he has any Reports from the Newfoundland Products Corporation, Limited, who received £2,000,000 Government guaranteed credit in 1922?

Mr. McNEILL

The Treasury have received the usual information as to progress from the Newfoundland Power and Paper Company, Limited, to which my hon. Friend no doubt refers, and are in close touch with the company through the Treasury director.

Sir F. WISE

May I ask whether an official has been sent out to Newfoundland?

Mr. McNEILL

I could not answer that without further notice.

Sir F. WISE

May I ask whether this is a first charge on the property?

Mr. McNEILL

I cannot give any detailed information about it without notice.

Mr. THURTLE

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether this company has made any profits yet?

Mr. McNEILL

It has been in active operation only since last August, and I do not think we have yet got the half yearly accounts.
