HC Deb 03 May 1926 vol 195 c17
40. Major Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in view of the many advantages in connection with rent and establishment charges enjoyed by the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institutes in Government establishments which are not available to civil traders, he will cancel paragraph 11 of Admiralty Fleet Order, No. 1070, of 1926, and substitute that 5 per cent. rebate will be paid into the ships or barracks fund on account of goods purchased for family use in addition to the 5 per cent. discount to the Customer?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Bridgeman)

The answer is in the negative. The full 10 per cent. rebate is only payable on the turnover of both wet and dry canteens. The purchases for family use to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers do not contribute to the profits of wet canteens, and the correct rebate on these purchases is, therefore, 5 per cent. only.
