§ 8. Colonel DAYasked the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been drawn to the prevailing high retail prices of meat; and will the attention of the Food Council be drawn to this matter?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERThe Food Council are already inquiring into retail meat prices.
§ Colonel DAYIs it not the fact that the Food Council have already expressed the opinion that the price of meat should be made 2d. or 3d. a pound cheaper?
§ Mr. PALINGIf nothing be done to bring down meat prices to the level suggested by the Food Council, is it the-intention of the right hon. Gentleman to give further powers to the Council in order to compel this to be done?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERIt really would be impossible for me to give an answer to that purely hypothetical question. I have not received any Report from the Food Council on the subject.
