HC Deb 29 March 1926 vol 193 c1653
70. Captain FRASER

asked the Minister of Health how many local authorities have made, or have under consideration for early application, schemes which give blind persons in their areas an assurance of a minimum income equal to or greater than that provided under the scheme proposed to be inaugurated by the Hull Town Council under the Blind Persons Act, 1920?

Sir K. WOOD

Twenty-two authorities have made, and 12 authorities have under consideration, arrangements similar to those under consideration in Hull for the augmentation of the incomes of blind persons to a fixed amount, but my right hon. Friend is not aware of any case in which it is proposed to give an assurance of a minimum income equal to or greater than that contemplated by the Hull Town Council.

Captain FRASER

In view of the necessity in many areas for relieving the conditions of civilian blind people, v ill the hon. Gentleman consider in what way he might be able to encourage local authorities to work the Blind Persons Act of 1920 more efficiently and expeditiously?

Sir K. WOOD

If my hon. Friend has any suggestions to make to further the object he has in view, I shall be glad to consider them.
