HC Deb 26 March 1926 vol 193 cc1529-30
Mr. ARTHUR HENDERSON

May I ask the Prime Minister what are the final arrangements of Business for the sittings next week?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

For the general convenience of the House, it is proposed to allot an extra half-day on Tuesday for the Second Reading of the Electricity Bill, and to obtain the Second Reading by 8.15 on Tuesday. As already announced, on Wednesday we shall consider the Economy Bill in Committee.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Shall we sit late on Tuesday?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not think there is any need, if the Bill concludes at 8.15.

Mr. HENDERSON

May I ask when it is the intention of the Government to move the Adjournment?

The PRIME MINISTER

It depends, of course, on the progress made—some time on Thursday.

Mr. HENDERSON

But is it the intention that the House should meet at eleven o'clock?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think, in any case, it would be wise to do that.

Mr. HENDERSON

Is the Prime Minister aware that representations have been made that there should be no encroachment upon the general discussion on the Adjournment, by proceeding with Government business during that day?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think there has been some discussion on the matter. We are very anxious to obtain two Clauses in Committee, which I think should be possible, on Wednesday.

Sir FREDRIC WISE

When will the Budget be introduced?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am afraid I cannot answer that question any more than I could yesterday, because it must depend on the progress made with the Economy Bill.
