§ 36. Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTEasked the Minister of Transport whether in making grants from the Road Fund, he makes it a condition that British stone only shall be used; and, if not, whether he will do so in the future?
§ Colonel ASHLEYFor an explanation of the policy of my Department in respect of the use of British road stone, I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answers which I gave on 22nd March, to the hon. Member for Central Hackney (Sir R. Gower) and on 23rd March to the Noble Lord the Member for the Shrewsbury Division (Viscount Sandon). I am sending him copies of these answers. I am not prepared to make it an absolute condition of grant from the Road Fund that British road stone alone should be used.
Commander WILLIAMSWhen this stone does come from abroad, will the right hon. Gentleman see that there is a Fair Wages Clause in the contract?
§ Colonel ASHLEYThat might be for consideration.
