asked the Minister of Transport the sum asked by the vendors for the plot of land of about one acre in extent recently acquired by the Middlesbrough Corporation for the South Tees main trunk road; the figure at which this land was assessed for local rates; the valuation by the district valuer of the Land Valuation Department; and the sum awarded by the arbitrator?

The sum asked by the vendors was £4,900. This amount included £1,572 in respect of the purchase price of the land and £3,328 in respect of compensation for severance and injurious affection. For poor and general district rates the land was assessed at £3 6s. 8d. per acre. The valuation made by the Valuation Office of the Inland Revenue Department was £332 17s. 6d. The arbitrator awarded the vendors the sum of £550 with interest at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum as from the 4th January, 1923.
