HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 cc1033-4
85. Colonel DAY

asked the Minister of Health, if he will, in view of the funds accumulated under the National Health Insurance Acts, consider the provision of death benefits to be paid to the dependants of insured contributors under the Act, in order to meet funeral expenses?

Sir K. WOOD

The provision of death benefits has from the first been expressly excluded by Statute from the schema of National Health insurance, and my right hon. Friend has received no indication of any general demand for its inclusion. No recommendation to that effect is included in the Report of the Royal Commission which has just concluded an inquiry into the scheme.
