HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 c1007
2. Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give the amount of gold imported from Russia to Great Britain during the week ending the 3rd instant?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

No gold was imported from Russia during the week ended the 3rd March.

Sir W. DAVISON

How it is that the information that is at the disposal of my hon. Friend's Department is not the same as the information which is common in the City of London; and is he aware that the Press of the country have been definitely stating (including the Financial Correspondent of the "Times"), that over £400,000 was imported? Does he not think it desirable that the Treasury should keep abreast of the latest information regarding the importation of gold?

Mr. McNEILL

It is more important that the Press should have accurate information.
