HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 cc1030-1
59. Sir F. HALL

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he will include in the Parliamentary Papers figures showing the cost of headquarters' staff per 1,000 men enlisted and per £1,000,000 expended for the Air Force, the Navy, and the Army, respectively?

Mr. McNEILL

I am not quite clear as to what Parliamentary Papers my hon. and gallant Friend has in mind. I will however pass on this suggestion to the three Departments concerned which present their own Estimates and Accounts to Parliament. I have some doubt whether the comparison of the resultant figures would be of any great value having regard to the differences in organisation and in the nature of the expenditure in the three Services.

Sir F. HALL

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how many Parliamentary Papers are issued in connection with the three Services? My own desire is that in sonic of those Papers the figures should be put down explicitly under each head.

Mr. McNEILL

If the hon. and gallant Gentleman will specify the Papers he thinks appropriate, I will consider the matter.
