HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 c1002
1. Mr. HANNON

asked the President of the Board of Trade what proportion of the returns for the Census of Production in 1924 have now been received; and whether, in view of the importance of securing this information, it is proposed to take any steps to put pressure upon the firms in default at once to supply the required information without further delay?

Mr. A. M. SAMUEL (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

The returns from firms whose production is substantial have, for the most part, been received, but in some trades the proportion of returns which are incomplete is considerable. Every effort is being made to secure returns without resort to legal procedure, and I hope that these efforts may be successful.

Mr. HANNON

What representations has my hon. Friend made to the trades not sending in returns What effort has been made to get returns?

Mr. SAMUEL

Every effort that is possible. If my hon. Friend will read my answer, he will see that we are hoping that we shall not have to resort to legal procedure in order to get them.
