HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 c1039
25. Major CRAWFURD

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the actual percentage increase in the rent received by his Department in respect of the allotment land now held by the Ludgershall parish council as compared with the rent formerly received from the then occupying farmer in respect of the same land; and what is the reason for this increase in the rent charged for the same land?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

For the whole farm, of which this allotment land forms a part, the average rent paid is a little under 15s, an acre. The rent at which the area in question has been offered to the parish council is 30s. an acre. The rent now paid by the Council for some of the land is £1 an acre. The rent now paid by some of the allotment holders is £2 6s. 8d. per acre including rates. As regards the last part of the question, I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave on the 23rd ultimo to the hon. Member for Devizes.

Major CRAWFURD

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether the figures he has just given do not confirm those which were given in a question which was put a few days ago, and which were then characterised as being inaccurate?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

I do not know who said that, but he could not have known the facts.
